17th AFRICAN SENIORS KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND 9th JUNIORS KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS AUGUST 28 – SEPTEMBER 02,2018 KIGALI – RWANDA
The African Karate actors met in Kigali, Rwanda From August 31st to September 2nd, 2018, for the 17th Senior and 9th Junior African Karate Championships, 27 African Nations were present at this event including 25 countries with athletes. The competition was held in very good conditions with the attendance of Mr. Antonio Espinos President of the World Karate Federation and Mrs. JULIENNE UWACU the Minister of Sports and Culture of Rwanda.
Referees and coaches courses and exams took place before the competition, from the 28 to 30 August under the direction of Mr Zitouni Metyout UFAK Referee Commission Chairman and Mr Peter Brandon UFAK Technical Commission Chairman, under the control of Mr Xavier Escalente WKF R C Chairman and Mr Antonio Oliva WKF Expert . We registered 56 juges & referees candidates and 53 coachs candidates, the results shall be posted later on.
On August 29 at 16:00 the UFAK Executive Committee members met in an ordinary meeting with the attendance of Mr Antonio Espinos WKF President and UFAK Executive Committee member . the UFAK E C came out with resolutions that shall be studied later including the coming back to the previous system of African Karate Championships, cadets-Juniors and U21. Thus, deep discussions have been initiated by the WKF President concerning the revitalization of the UFAK Zones which have observed for some of them a blatant recession. President Antonio Espinos promised to tackle this issue by getting in direct contact with the Zone’s Presidents to listen to their grievances and needs, this is why he asked the contact details of these area’s Presidents.
It is also very important to note that in the context of the reorganization of the commissions, some changes at the head of the Referee Commission and Technical commission were operated.

Technical Coordinator: Mr ISMAELA BA to replace Mr Peter Brandon , retired on his request.

ZONE 1 UFAK and ZONE 4 UFAK hold their Elective General Assemblies on the sidelines of these African Karate Championships, following the request of the UFAK Executive Bureau, by e-mail to the Federations of the concerned zones. Only these two areas had their quorum reached to carry out the requested elections.
